Breakouts for Mar 15th: The first pick, BJRI, completed a private placement of $42.6m of common stock, or 2.75m shares at a purchase price of $15.50 per share. The stock closed at new all time highs, although a retest of prior highs at $17.60 cannot be ruled out. Such a test would mark a good buying opportunity. The MACD trigger line is below resistance but on-balance-volume is at new highs. Slow stochastics are firmly overbought implying strong bullish momentum. The point-n-figure chart shows a breakout (a bearish signal reversal from 9th Feb) with a price target of $27.50. I have set my price target at psychological $25 resistance. The second pick, MINI, had reported a Q4 profit in late February, topping expectations, and raising 2005 outlook. Today's breakout ends a 3 month consolidation. The stock continues to ride a double top breakout dating back to Nov 4th 2004. On-balance-volume is above resistance, but the MACD trigger line remains just below resistance of its own. The point-n-figure target is $53.50. I have set my price target below $50 psychological resistance. The third pick, HAWK, had announced year end 2004 reserves in late February, but has been PR light since. Today's breakout came in the absence of company specific news, but ended 4-weeks of low volume action. Slow stochastics are firmly overbought and on-balance-volume is at new highs. The MACD trigger line is on a 'sell' signal, although it has held its own support from October/November. The price target is based on a measured move from $7.45 lows.
