Breakouts for June 29th: With the markets close to (or at) a top I have featured current gold and breakout plays which are making fresh breakouts. The first pick, DRRX, was a gold member pick from June 14th. The stock gained on heavier volume following a 'buy' rating from Oppenheimer. The breakout was supported by a 'buy' signal from the MACD trigger line and a positive test of support in on-balance-volume following an earlier breakout in this indicator. The stock continues its upward run from its May 31st ascending triple top breakout on the point-n-figure chart with a price target of $6.00 - but I think this should be good enough to reach summer 2002 levels of between $7.50-9.00. The second pick, MMSI, was a featured gold member pick for May 13th. The stock broke a bullish pennant on modest volume, but it was enough of a move to qualify as a breakout. The MACD trigger line is still in consolidation mode as its 'sell' signal holds above the bullish zero line. Buyers should watch for a confirmation break in on-balance-volume. The point-n-figure target of $24.00 looks within reach - but I have kept a test of $20 psychological resistance as its initial target. The third pick, AFFX, was given the kiss of Cramer - so far the stock has held up well and looks ready to move again - but I have raised the stop and target price from its January 28th feature. Like MMSI, its MACD trigger line is in consolidation, but it has an rising accumulation trend in on-balance-volume. Slow stochastics have remained very strong with barely a drop below the bullish mid-line. The 'A+' rating from Investors Business Daily is the icing on the cake. A move to $55.00 will trigger a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart with a price target of $62.00. The ideal pivot (buy) price is $54.25.
