Breakouts for July 5th: The first pick, EFX, last featured as a breakout for April 22nd. Strong accumulation in the prior week has the stock poised to move for a run to earnings on July 21st. Supporting Friday's close over resistance was a 'buy' signal in the MACD trigger line and an early break of resistance in on-balance-volume. Slow stochastics had bounced off the bullish mid-line - confirming the last dip to $33.91 as a bullish consolidation. The stock is still running as part of a November 24th 2004 triple top breakout. I have raised the earlier stop and target price. The second pick, BGC, featured as a breakout for May 5th. The stock followed with an 8-week sideways consolidation which finished the week up against resistance. Friday's doji shows demand in the low $14s and GTC buy orders sub-$14.50 would take advantage of future moves into this price zone. A move to $15.50 will trigger a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart as part of its run to $21.00. The last news from the company was the closure of two plants announced mid-June. The third pick, NICE, had featured as a breakout for April 13th. There is a mixed bag of technical strength. A buy in the MACD trigger line is tempered by a potential bearish divergence in the line itself. However, the breakout in on-balance-volume shows accumulation, and therefore bulls in control. Given this, I have kept the earlier target price and simply raised the stop price in order to guranantee some profit on the earlier position. More risk averse players could place a stop below Friday's lows ($39.00) for a minimal capital risk - or swing traders could use the narrow intraday range as a basis for a swing trade (buy a $0.10 move above the days highs, short a $0.10 move below Friday's lows). The swing to look for is $5.00. A move to $40.00 will trigger a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart.
